Haymitch Abernathy will guide Katniss and Peeta as their mentor when they compete in the Hunger Games. The upcoming movie, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, is based on a book that actually features appearances by Katniss and Peeta alongside an older Haymitch in the years following the war. It’s currently unclear if the movie will expand on these scenes from the book, or if Woody Harrelson will reprise his role as Haymitch.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is a new movie that goes back in time to the world of Panem. It tells the story of a young Haymitch Abernathy, 24 years before the first Hunger Games film, beginning on the day of the 50th Hunger Games – also known as the Second Quarter Quell.
The new Hunger Games movie comes out on November 20, 2026, and we can’t wait to see Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson reprise their roles as Katniss and Peeta!
