Jennie Garth Slams Oscars for Omitting Friend Shannen Doherty from In Memoriam Segment; Says, ‘That’s Messed…’

As a devoted follower of both Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty, I’m voicing my agreement with Jennie’s recent comments about the 2025 Oscars. In an interview, she rightfully expressed her dismay over the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences for leaving out Shannen from the In Memoriam tribute. To me, this oversight seems unfair and I believe they should apologize for it.

52-year-old Garth was questioned about the controversy during his time in New York. In response to TMZ’s query, he expressed his thoughts in a video shared on March 5. When asked if the Academy should issue an apology, he concurred, highlighting the disillusionment not only of fans but also of his peers.

Although Doherty’s picture wasn’t shown during the televised tribute, she was acknowledged in the official In Memoriam database on the Academy’s website. However, this omission from the actual ceremony drew significant criticism, with her representative expressing disappointment, pointing out that Doherty had spent 45 years working in Hollywood.

Actress Doherty, recognized for her roles in Beverly Hills, 90210 and Charmed, sadly passed away at the age of 53 in July 2024 after a prolonged fight against cancer. Her career, which extended over several decades, included memorable performances in movies like Heathers and Mallrats.

In addition to Doherty, other Hollywood figures such as Tony Todd and Michelle Trachtenberg were not recognized during the tribute, even though their names appeared on the Academy’s online memorial.

The “In Memoriam” tribute, presented by Morgan Freeman, paid respects to several notable figures from the industry, such as Gene Hackman, Donald Sutherland, and Shelley Duvall. Yet, the omission of significant names like Doherty has led to criticism, with voices urging the Academy to rectify this oversight.
