As a long-time viewer and admirer of the Today Show, I must say that the recent banter between Hoda Kotb, Jenna Bush Hager, and Gayle King has been nothing short of entertaining. While it’s sad to see Kotb leave the show, the chemistry between these three women is undeniable, and their camaraderie shines through even in the face of change.
In one August episode, Hoda Kotb shared that she would be leaving the Today Show. This news surprised quite a few people, but it was undeniably an emotional time for Hoda and her fellow anchors, Jenna Bush Hager and Al Roker.
Despite just one month left before Kotb’s permanent departure from the show, Hager announced that he has an ideal candidate ready to step into her seat.
During a segment on Today with Hoda and Jenna, Jenna playfully suggested that Gayle King might be an excellent choice to replace Hoda when she eventually departs the program. Jenna further explained that she was merely expressing her dissatisfaction by jokingly hinting at Hoda’s departure.
Furthermore, Bush Hager was referred to as King’s closest friend, and the journalist addressed her saying, “There’s an empty chair waiting.” Catching sight of Hager quickly, Kotb exclaimed, “Mine hasn’t cooled down yet!
The fun banter continued as Bush Hager did not drop the matter and continued to say, “I know you have a job over at 60 Minutes and such, but Gayle & Jenna has a beautiful ring to it. I’m just kidding.”
In a friendly manner, Kotb went along with it when she asserted her affection for King, encouraging Jenna to heap a bit more praise on the CBS Mornings anchor.
During the segment featuring Hoda and Jenna, they invited guest Mikey Day. To keep things lively, Bush Hager asked Day if he was fond of Shaboozey. She then added that Gayle King is a big fan of Shaboozey.
In a swift response to Hager’s remark, Kotb playfully retorted, “What’s your game here? You seem to be hinting at something. You keep mentioning Gayle King over and over again on our program, implying she’s casting shadows on me.
In my perspective, today, I’m channeling the frustration I feel. You see, due to past experiences, I struggle with feelings of abandonment when someone close departs, like Gayle King is helping me navigate through those issues today.
Starting in January, Hoda Kotb is set to depart from the show, and until a new journalist takes her place, the program will temporarily be known as “Today Show with Jenna and Company.
