Jeffrey Dean Morgan Reflects On His Casting In The Boys Season 4; Says ‘It Was Pretty Freeing’

As a dedicated fan and avid follower of the entertainment industry, I must say that Jeffrey Dean Morgan‘s journey with The Boys has been nothing short of electrifying. His portrayal of Joe Kessler, the enigmatic villain who brought both chaos and charm to the screen, was a testament to his versatile acting skills.

In an industry where every actor dreams of finding their perfect fit, Morgan found it in The Boys. Erik Kripke saw something in him that resonated with Karl Urban’s character, and that synergy between the two powerhouses resulted in some unforgettable on-screen moments.

Working alongside Karl Urban was a joy for Morgan, as they shared a bond that transcended their roles. They were two peas in a pod, constantly giggling and pushing each other’s boundaries during filming. I can only imagine the mischief they must have gotten up to on the sets!

Their camaraderie was so palpable that it made the scenes between them feel effortless and genuine. Morgan claimed that he had the freedom to experiment with his character, knowing that if something didn’t work, they would simply have a good laugh about it.

Morgan’s character met his end in the second last episode of season 4, but his impact on the show will be felt for seasons to come. The Boys has been renewed for a fifth and final season, which is set to air in 2026. I can’t wait to see what other surprises the writers have in store for us!

On a lighter note, I’d like to think that Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Karl Urban are plotting their next on-screen adventure together, somewhere far away from the prying eyes of their fellow cast members. After all, who needs superheroes when you have these two troublemakers? The Boys may be coming to an end, but the fun is just getting started!

Actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan, known for playing Joe Kessler in season 4 of The Boys on Prime Video, spoke about his role in the series. In this drama, Morgan’s character, a key antagonist, manipulated other characters to commit violent acts and exercised control over them using his powers.

During a chat with Collider, the actor, slated for Bloody Axe Wound’s premiere, shared insights about his work on the popular television series.

In his conversation, Morgan disclosed that it was because the showrunner noticed resemblances between himself and Karl Urban that led to him being chosen to be part of the actors in the television series.

During an interview with a media outlet, the actor from Grey’s Anatomy explained, “I guess that’s why Kripke cast me in that part. We were like two of a kind. We had such a great time and laughed so much. I was probably as annoying to the rest of the cast as one might expect, especially Karl, in that role.

Morgan continued discussing his on-screen moments with Urban. He asserted that the filming experience was relatively stress-free for him.

Expanding on the topic, the actor expressed, “Picture him performing a scene with someone he often can’t interact with genuinely. It was thrilling! It felt liberating. I had the freedom to do anything. If an idea worked, fantastic. If not, we shared a hearty laugh about it.

Speaking about his camaraderie with The Lord of the Rings co-star Karl, Morgan expressed, “It felt incredibly liberating.” Further, he mentioned, “Working alongside someone I deeply respect and share a remarkable resemblance with has been an unparalleled joy. I can’t think of anyone I’ve ever had more fun with.

Morgan’s character in the show was killed in the second last episode of the season.

In the interim, it’s been announced that the streaming service has renewed The Boys for a fifth season. Interestingly, the creators have made it clear that this fifth season will mark the end of the series.

Besides Morgan and Karl Urban, the ensemble also features Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Karen Fukuhara, and Jensen Ackles.

Season 5 of The Boys is slated to hit the screens in 2026.
