Jeff Daniels Blasts Trump’s Shocking AI Video: ‘Do We Really Have to Treat People Like That?’

Jeff Daniels, the actor, has spoken out against President Donald Trump following a widely shared, AI-created video depicting Trump throwing waste at demonstrators.

In an interview with MSNBC’s Nicole Wallace on October 21st, Daniels reacted with disbelief to the clip, questioning whether such treatment of people was necessary.

On October 18th, Donald Trump posted a video to Truth Social showing him dressed as a king, flying a plane over protests related to ‘No Kings Day.’ In the video, he appears to drop a brown liquid onto the protestors below.

CNN reports that over seven million people across the United States participated in protests, demonstrating broad disapproval of the Trump administration.

Daniels drew comparisons between Trump’s behavior and that of previous presidents, suggesting a lack of basic decency. He questioned whether a president like Abraham Lincoln would ever create and share a meme depicting himself flying with a crown while figuratively ‘spewing excrement’ on others.

I remember hearing Wallace and Daniels talk about it, and they both felt strongly that neither Nixon, nor Reagan, nor either of the Bushes would have acted that way. It really highlighted how unusual the situation was, in their opinion.

The actor, originally from the Midwest, believes Trump’s recent video doesn’t align with the principles of many Americans. He explained, “I think people in the Midwest, like myself, prioritize kindness and respect. We tend to be skeptical of trends we see on the coasts and feel a bit of pride in our Midwestern values.”

He also suggested that voters might look for a different candidate if Trump doesn’t fulfill his economic promises. He explained that if things don’t improve financially as Trump pledged, people will likely become frustrated and seek change in the next election.

Jeff Daniels criticized the way Donald Trump is often portrayed, questioning the need for such harsh imagery. He specifically referenced a meme depicting Trump negatively and asked if a leader like Lincoln would engage in such behavior. Daniels, speaking from his perspective in the Midwest, emphasized the importance of decency and civility.

This isn’t the first time Daniels has publicly criticized Trump. Back in 2019, he cautioned that another Trump presidency could threaten democracy, drawing a connection to his role as Atticus Finch in the Broadway production of To Kill a Mockingbird. He quoted a line from the play, explaining that he sees Trump’s rallies as places where people temporarily ignore their own sense of right and wrong – a scene where people are willing to believe anything. Daniels pointed out that Trump’s use of language often touches on racial issues and false economic promises, which he feels deliberately mislead voters.

Daniels emphasized his view that leaders need to be respectful and considerate, even when facing intense political pressure.
