A woman, earlier alleged that Jay-Z (Shawn Carter) had raped her when she was 13 years old, has been seen in a video saying that the incident never happened. She declared that her attorney, Tony Buzbee, pressured her into filing the lawsuit.
In December 2024, an individual referred to as Jane Doe filed a lawsuit claiming that the rapper had raped her after the MTV Video Music Awards in 2000. However, a recording obtained by ABC News features her stating that Carter was present at the party, but did not participate in any sexual activities with her.
The private investigators, unconnected to Carter’s legal team, made the recording at the woman’s home in Alabama. On this recording, it’s claimed that Jane Doe was advised by lawyer Tony Buzbee to file a lawsuit against the Roc Nation founder, jointly with Sean Diddy Combs – an accusation that Buzbee firmly rejected.
As reported by TMZ, he provided ABC News with a recording of himself challenging Jane Doe’s statement for retracting her original allegations. However, she denied ever recanting her initial accusations.
According to reports, Buzbee stood firm as his client’s advocate. In a statement to ABC News, he referred to the recording as a fake and accused the investigators of bullying and deceiving Jane Doe. He continued to assert that she consistently maintained her stance that Jay-Z had assaulted her, never showing any signs of changing this claim.
Tony Buzbee explained to TMZ, “The video is fake. They manipulated, bullied, and deceived the woman, taking her words out of context and covertly recording her. She maintains her assertion that Jay-Z physically attacked her, a claim she has never altered.
Jay-Z’s legal representative, Alex Spiro, responded to the announcement, expressing that his client is hopeful this development will finally put a stop to what he referred to as a distressing, false storyline. By February 2025, the charges against the rapper had been dismissed.
Today marks a triumph for [the Empire State of Mind rapper]. The baseless, fabricated, and absurd accusations have been discarded. This civil lawsuit lacked substance and had no future, he declared at the time, further stating that “The fictitious story they concocted was amusing, if not for the gravity of the claims.
Jay-Z had sued both Jane Doe and Tony Buzbee for defamation.
