As someone who has always been captivated by true-crime stories and the intricacies of human behavior, I am genuinely excited about the return of Ryan Murphy’s anthology series, Monsters. Having grown up in the 90s, the Menendez brothers’ case was a topic of frequent discussion among my friends and me, and it’s fascinating to see how this story is being brought to life on screen.
Following the captivating narrative presented in its initial season, the series returns with another thought-provoking tale that challenges your perception of reality. Titled Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, it delves into a well-known real-life case involving brothers Lyle and Erik Menendez, featuring an impressive ensemble including Javier Bardem.
In this series, the central plot involves two siblings who tragically murdered their own parents, causing significant distress among their upscale Beverly Hills neighbors. Notably, Javier Bardem plays a crucial part in this narrative.
During the premiere of Variety in Los Angeles, the actor from No Country for Old Men expressed that the series is centered around the effects or outcomes of trauma.
He further went on to add that until the trauma is addressed with focus and is healed, it will be a part of our society and will destroy many generations. Bardem stated that it will “have a huge, horrible, dramatic effect,” on many lives.
For those unfamiliar, the talented actor known for captivating performances in films like “Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” “Skyfall,” and numerous other acclaimed productions, plays the character of the father of Lyle and Erik Menendez, whom the brothers tragically killed.
In the ’90s, the story of Lyle and Erik Menendez frequently made newspaper headlines. During their trial, it was revealed that the brothers asserted they murdered their parents due to a history of sexual abuse by their father, Jose Menendez.
Remarkably, it’s reported by The Hollywood Reporter that even Kitty Menendez, their mother, seemed aware of the happenings within her sons’ household.
After being found guilty of premeditated murder and conspiring to carry out a murder, both Erik and Lyle received sentences of life imprisonment, which included no chance for early release or parole.
In this captivating series, I find myself sharing the screen with none other than Javier Bardem. Additionally, I portray one of the brothers, Lyle Menendez, alongside Nicholas Alexander Chavez who plays our other brother Erik. The enigmatic Kitty Menendez, our mother, is brilliantly brought to life by the talented Chloë Sevigny.
In the mentioned show, Nathan Lane takes on the role of Dominick Dunne, while Ari Graynor portrays Leslie Abramson.
In the realm of Ryan Murphy’s true-crime anthology series, we have “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” as the most recent addition. Previously, the first season delved into the story of Jefferey Dahmer, skillfully portrayed by Evan Peters.
For the fans of the series, producer Ryan Murphy gave a big update talking about the third season of the series. Charlie Hunnam is set to join the Monsters franchise as the next serial killer.
The announcement came during the Los Angeles premiere. It states that the Sons of Anarchy star will play Ed Gein next in the series.
You can watch Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story on Netflix.
