Comedy fans are still feeling nostalgic for the late 1990s, particularly remembering the iconic “band camp” scene from American Pie. Jason Biggs, who starred as Jim Levenstein in the original movies and became widely known 26 years ago, recently talked about the ongoing rumors of a fifth American Pie film.
The main cast of American Pie, including Seann William Scott as Stifler, last appeared together in 2012’s American Reunion, but fans are still eager for another movie. Jason Biggs recently told the New York Post that discussions about a sequel are ongoing, with conversations and rumors happening regularly.
The actor expressed his enthusiasm about reprising his role as Jim, but emphasized the importance of having a compelling story for a potential reunion. He said it would be a really enjoyable experience, mainly because he’s become very close to the rest of the cast and considers them like family.
Biggs thinks now is a perfect time to bring back the franchise because people are so focused on the past. He says the strong and continued enthusiasm of fans is a major reason why there’s so much talk about a possible return, as he often hears from viewers eager to see the original cast together again.
The actor has a strong personal connection to the show, and recently told People magazine that he’s kept many items from the set as keepsakes. He has most of it stored away, but still owns all of the original scripts and even a shirt from his high school band camp – though he joked that it doesn’t fit him anymore.
Beyond being known for his comedy, Biggs has been very honest about his personal struggles. He recently marked eight years of sobriety, and while on The View promoting his new project, he talked about how alcohol used to control his life and the hard work it took to change that for good.
He explained that overcoming his addiction felt like a never-ending internal fight. Although he avoided a very public and legal downfall, the emotional strain was immense. In 2017, Biggs decided to get sober because he wanted to be fully engaged with his family, especially with he and his wife, Jenny Mollen, expecting children.
Jason Biggs is now a director! His first movie, the dark comedy-thriller Untitled Home Invasion Romance, features him alongside Meaghan Rath and Justin H. Min. The story centers around a husband who tries to spice up his marriage by faking a home invasion, but things quickly get out of control and turn into a murder investigation.
The movie debuted at the Torino Film Festival and became available online in late January, earning positive reviews for its mix of funny and suspenseful moments. Meanwhile, Jason Biggs is also starring in the sci-fi comedy Operation Taco Gary’s, playing a heightened, fictionalized version of himself. The film was released in select cinemas on February 27th.
The movie features Simon Rex and Dustin Milligan as brothers who unexpectedly find themselves involved in a bizarre, galaxy-spanning plot connected to a fast-food restaurant. Outside of acting, Rex lives in New York City with his wife, Jenny Mollen – who is also an actress and writer – and their two sons, Sid and Lazlo.
