The upcoming film in the Tron series, titled Tron: Ares, is generating enthusiasm among fans as a new trailer has been released. Disney announced the first official “Soldier” trailer, ahead of the movie’s planned US release on October 10, which will also feature IMAX screenings.

The movie, titled “Tron: Ares,” is helmed by director Joachim Rønning. Its screenplay was crafted by Jesse Wigutow, who also collaborated with David Digilio on its original story. This film serves as the third installment in the series and picks up where “Tron: Legacy” from 2010 left off.

The narrative revolves around Ares, an exceptionally sophisticated digital entity making its way into our physical world for the very first human-AI interaction, as presented by Walt Disney Pictures.

In this production, Jared Leto takes on the role of Ares, a shrewd computer program designed by Julian Dillinger. The star-studded lineup additionally features Greta Lee portraying Eve Kim, Evan Peters as Julian Dillinger himself, Hasan Minhaj playing Ajay Singh, Jodie Turner-Smith as Athena, Arturo Castro as Seth Flores, Cameron Monaghan as Caius, Gillian Anderson as Elisabeth Dillinger, and Jeff Bridges reprising his role from the earlier films as Kevin Flynn. The cast also includes Sarah Desjardins.

The creation of a Tron sequel commenced back in October 2010, with the franchise’s originator Steven Lisberger leading the way. Since then, the project has seen numerous changes in directors and scripts. By 2020, Garth Davis had been appointed as director, but he left his position in January 2023, eventually replaced by Rønning in February 2023.

The filming for the project faced delays due to the 2023 Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes, but eventually started in January 2024 in Vancouver and concluded in May. Notably, the industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails will contribute to the music score for this production.

As a movie buff, I’ve always followed the intriguing journey of the Tron franchise with great interest. Initially, there were attempts to expand the story beyond Tron: Legacy, featuring Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde in our world. However, those plans took a turn when Disney decided to shelve them due to the underwhelming box office performance of Tomorrowland.

Throughout the years, different writers and directors have been involved, but progress often stalled. However, Disney decided to revive the project with a fresh start, casting Jared Leto in a brand new role.
