James Van Der Beek recently shared what led to his weight loss and explained why he couldn’t attend the “Dawson’s Creek” reunion during an interview on “Today.”
The actor, diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer last year, said he missed the September event because of a stomach virus, and not because of his cancer treatment.
Van Der Beek watched the ‘Dawson’s Creek’ reunion on Zoom and was touched by the warm welcome his family received. Even though he couldn’t attend in person, he shared that his family received a standing ovation simply for arriving.
He explained that the affection people had for him instead went to his family, which he found incredibly touching. He expressed his gratitude to his fans for this heartwarming gesture.
He explained his noticeable weight loss during a recent video call, saying it was due to a bad stomach virus, not cancer. He joked about how people often assume the worst when it comes to health issues. Van Der Beek also assured his fans that he’s now feeling much better.
The original cast of “Dawson’s Creek” reunited for the first time since the show ended in 2003. They performed a reading of the very first episode as a fundraiser for the charities F Cancer and Van Der Beek’s personal foundation. Lin-Manuel Miranda filled in to read Van Der Beek’s lines, and Michelle Williams, Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson, and other cast members also participated.
Van Der Beek shared how much the reunion meant to him and expressed gratitude for the show’s dedicated fans. Although he couldn’t be there in person, he still felt connected to the celebration thanks to his family and social media.
