The news of James Van Der Beek’s death on February 11th was deeply upsetting for many people who came of age in the 90s and early 2000s. He was a familiar face from shows like Dawson’s Creek and movies like Varsity Blues, and felt like a constant presence in pop culture. While his passing leaves a significant void, fans will still be able to enjoy his work in the upcoming Prime Video series Elle, a prequel to Legally Blonde, where he had a recurring role.
He’s landed the role of Dean Wilson, a candidate for mayor who also leads the school district. The show premieres on July 1st. He’ll also be in the film The Gates, which comes out in theaters on March 13th. Plus, according to Deadline, he was writing a memoir, so we might get to learn more about him and his life soon.
Saying goodbye to an actor we admire is always difficult. Fortunately, their work continues to inspire and entertain us long after they’re gone. We’re excited to see Elle and James Van Der Beek in their new Prime Video series.
