James McAvoy Says He’s ‘Ever Ready’ To Return To X-Men Universe When ‘There’s Good Material’

As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for Hollywood trends, I must say James McAvoy‘s versatility and commitment to his roles are truly commendable. With over a decade of playing Professor X in the rebooted X-Men franchise, it’s clear that he’s not just an actor who dons a costume, but one who fully embodies his characters. His eagerness to return to the role, provided the project is worthy, speaks volumes about his dedication and professionalism.

James McAvoy has shown readiness multiple times to reappear as Professor X, a role he played in the revamped X-Men series by 20th Century Studios since 2011. In an interview with Variety at the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con, McAvoy expressed his willingness to join the franchise again, contingent upon the project’s quality.

“McAvoy stated that he’s consistently drawn to compelling roles and fresh storytelling opportunities, regardless of whether they’re familiar territory or entirely novel experiences.”

“Whenever there’s worthwhile content at hand, I’m always prepared to respond. I’m always on standby, ever eager! Ready as an actor! However, it needs to be high-quality material and they should be keen on using it, so everything remains theoretical for now.”

In the interview, the actor was inquired if he had watched the hit Marvel movie featuring Deadpool and Wolverine, known for its array of famous cameos. Despite never watching it, he admitted that his name appeared in the film’s credits.

He acknowledged, “Yes, yes, I knew I’d be mentioned in the credits. I made sure of it. [Laughs] But,” he clarified, when queried about potentially making a cameo in the film, he swiftly declined. “Absolutely not, no, no, no, no. Not this time around. I don’t think so. If there was even a hint of a role, they must have discarded that notion long before reaching out to me, so no,” he quipped playfully.

In his newest horror movie, Speak No Evil, McAvoy collaborated with Director James Watkins and fellow actress Mackenzie Davis. The plot centers on an American family – a couple and their daughter – whose peaceful vacation at a rural British home takes a terrifying turn into a psychological ordeal.

In a conversation about the film, the actor commended the director for skillfully balancing tranquil scenes with an undercurrent of “tension” during the initial part of the gradual-intensification movie. He further explained, “It’s nothing but tension, tension, tension, and so for the final 20 minutes when everything erupts, it simply bursts open.”

Speak No Evil will hit theaters on 13 September 2024.
