James Marsden Reveals Comic-Accurate Cyclops Costume For Avengers: Doomsday

James Marsden has confirmed he’s returning as Cyclops in Avengers: Doomsday. He revealed the news on Jimmy Kimmel Live! after having previously said he wasn’t involved.

During his interview, Kimmel reminded Marsden that he’d previously been caught being dishonest on the show. Marsden explained he’d done so to avoid accidentally revealing secrets about Marvel projects and getting in trouble.

Marsden recently confirmed he’s reprising his role as Scott Summers (Cyclops) now that fans have seen the reveal. He also explained that the new costume is a return to Cyclops’ classic comic book design, a significant departure from the black leather look of the previous X-Men films.

James Marsden Says He Lied To Avoid Marvel Trouble

Jimmy Kimmel started the segment by playfully saying he was confused and felt betrayed when James Marsden previously claimed he hadn’t been on the show.

Marsden confessed he’s not very good at lying and explained he had to pretend not to know anything, because actors working with Marvel Studios aren’t allowed to reveal details until the studio gives the okay.

He even joked that he was trying to avoid “litigation” from Marvel by keeping quiet.

Cyclops Gets A Comic-Accurate Costume

A key point from the interview is that Cyclops will finally have a costume more faithful to his comic book appearance, according to Marsden.

He pointed out that the first X-Men films featured the team in tight, black leather costumes. These outfits were uncomfortable and limited the actors’ movement, making it difficult to feel heroic.

I remember hearing James Marsden talk about filming the very first X-Men movie with Hugh Jackman. Apparently, they were shooting near the Statue of Liberty, and both of them kept stumbling over this tiny wall! It was all because their costumes were so tight and restrictive – it sounds like a real comedy of errors on set!

He described the new Doomsday suit as feeling completely different, saying it felt “very cool” to wear and made him feel proud.

The Visor Still Comes With One Big Problem

While the new suit looks improved, Marsden mentioned there’s still one challenge with portraying Cyclops.

He said the visor obstructs his vision, playfully complaining that he “can’t see” when he has it on.
