As an ardent admirer of James Marsden, his journey in Hollywood has always been fascinating to me. His recent reminiscing about his audition for Saturday Night Live, during his early acting days, only adds another layer to my adoration for this multi-talented actor.
Every actor, including James Marsden, has a tale about a less-than-perfect audition experience. In his younger acting years, he shared an embarrassing audition mishap for Saturday Night Live.
During his appearance on Wednesday’s episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, Marsden mused over this tale when Consuelos brought up the topic of his audition for the late-night sketch show. In response to being asked about the tryout, the Notebook actor casually commented, “I guess you could call it that.
Marsden mentioned that they were conducting a country-wide talent hunt, and one of his acting companions from his drama class suggested he should give it a try.
The actor remarked, “I believe they asked us to act out… But it wasn’t something along the lines of ‘Develop a captivating character,’ or similar. Instead, it was more like ‘Feel free to do whatever foolish thing you fancy.’ I can’t explain why we opted for this, but we ended up cackling like chickens and circling one another.
He said with a laugh that it was a “bad choice.” Although he did not get selected after this audition, he did, however, get a chance to act in SNL alum, Tina Fey’s sitcom, 30 Rock. Marsden shared that he did talk to her about wanting to perform on SNL.
In simpler terms, the charismatic actor shared that he briefly appeared on 3D’s “30 Rock” alongside Fey, expressing his long-held dream of joining the sketch comedy series. When she suggested he might host the show someday, Marsden admitted he aspired to become a regular cast member instead.
Later on, Fey implied that Marsden might be able to, should he choose to. The actor subsequently informed the talk show hosts about his passion for delivering impressions and playing various characters. Ripa suggested it was high time for Marsden to take over Saturday Night Live and voiced her belief that he would excel in the role. Consuelos added playfully, “Go ahead and host the show and do the chicken dance.
