James Gunn’s Superman Won’t Be Another Guardians, Says Star

In a recent chat, actor Anthony Carrigan hinted that director James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film will differ significantly from his Guardians of the Galaxy movies in terms of style and approach.

In a more playful vein compared to the original content, Gunn crafted his “Guardians” films differently. This unconventional approach proved successful as many fans weren’t deeply acquainted with “Guardians of the Galaxy.” Moreover, these movies offered a refreshing element within the Marvel Cinematic Universe at that point in time.

On the other hand, Superman stands apart from the norm. He’s one of the oldest and best recognized characters in pop culture. Unlike Gunn, who worked on the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) under Zack Snyder, Gunn adopted a different approach for his Marvel movies.

“Has the same heart and intelligence”

During a conversation with THR, Carrigan explained that while the tone of the upcoming Superman film shares some similarities with Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies, it’s not an exact match.

Carrigan expresses some reservations about comparing it directly to “Guardians”, but acknowledges that in essence, “[Superman] shares the same compassionate heart and intellect.” This is a characteristic typically associated with James. However, he emphasizes that it will undoubtedly carve its unique path. “Developing it was an exceptional journey,” Carrigan adds, “and the entire cast was committed to delivering something truly extraordinary. So, let’s hope this spirit is effectively portrayed on screen.

After the debut of his “Creature Commandos” animated series, Gunn faced criticism from certain quarters who argue that he consistently employs the same formula. The chatter from test screenings has been varied. Some contend that the upcoming “Superman” film is a calamity filled with corny humor, while more recent whispers indicate that the new edits and adjustments seem to strike a better equilibrium between the humor and gravity.
