To celebrate its 20th anniversary, James Gunn’s film Slither is returning to cinemas, and a new trailer has just been released.
The popular 2006 horror-comedy will return to select theaters on April 10th. Fans can then enjoy a 4K digital version starting May 1st, and a special Steelbook edition will be available on May 18th.
This restored version was created using a 35mm copy and was given the go-ahead by director James Gunn and cinematographer Gregory Middleton. You can watch the trailer below.

Slither returns in 4K
The horror film Slither is now available in 4K resolution, celebrating its 20th anniversary since it first came out.
I recently watched this film and it’s wild! Nathan Fillion plays the sheriff, and Elizabeth Banks and Michael Rooker are fantastic as Starla and Grant Grant. Basically, it’s about this alien parasite that descends on a small town and turns everyone into seriously creepy, monstrous versions of themselves. It’s a fun, scary ride!
This re-release is especially exciting for fans of James Gunn, as Slither has long been considered one of his best early films, before he became known for Guardians of the Galaxy, The Suicide Squad, Superman, and his work at DC Studios. It also offers a chance to experience the movie in a restored 4K version and on the big screen again.
New trailer released for the anniversary
The latest trailer showcases the film’s blend of disturbing body horror, humor, and impressive practical effects – the same elements that made Slither a fan favorite. It emphasizes the movie’s wild, disgusting alien mayhem and reminds viewers why it remains a standout horror film from the 2000s.
The anniversary release will also be available on home video. Along with a digital version, a Steelbook edition is planned featuring a newly remastered 4K presentation and extra content related to the restoration. This includes new interviews with key people involved in the film, such as cinematographer Gregory Middleton, editor John Axelrad, special effects designer Todd Masters, and composer Tyler Bates.

A cult James Gunn movie gets another shot
While Slither wasn’t a huge hit when it was first released, it’s become increasingly popular over time. Thanks to director James Gunn’s fans, Nathan Fillion’s widespread appeal, and the film’s status as a beloved horror-comedy, this new release has a good chance of attracting genre fans eager to see it on the big screen again.
This release is particularly well-timed, as James Gunn is currently well-known for his work with DC. Re-releasing Slither offers fans a chance to revisit the type of genre films that first brought him recognition.
