James Gunn Shares First SUPERGIRL Set Photo, Annoucing Production Has Begun

James Gunn‘s “Superman” is approaching, scheduled for release on July 11. However, another significant family member of Kal-El is also preparing for her premiere in the new DCU. As announced on social media, principal photography has started on “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow”. The photo shared reveals the back of Milly Alcock’s head, who plays Kara Zor-El, sitting in her filming chair. Craig Gillispie, renowned for his work on “I, Tonya” and “Cruella”, is directing this project. Here’s James Gunn’s post: [link to the post]

Excited about the filming commencement at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden for Supergirl, directed by Craig Gillespie, who brilliantly portrays our Kara Zor-El, played by the exceptional Milly Alcock. Craig’s approach to this narrative is remarkable, and Milly embodies perfectly the distinct #Supergirl that Tom had imagined…

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but speculate about this recent Supergirl photo! While it doesn’t reveal too much, there are a few intriguing details that catch my eye. First off, it appears Kara will be sporting long hair in this adaptation. Though she’s had various hairstyles throughout the DC Comics, the longer style seems to be a nod to her appearance in the Tom King and Bilquis Evely comic that serves as the film’s basis.

Secondly, I noticed Milly Alcock’s chair bears the same ‘S’ symbol we see on David Corenswet, our new Man of Steel. This could imply a shared House of El symbol across both films, suggesting consistency in their universe-building efforts.

Last but not least, the bar where Kara seems to be hanging out might just be the very same alien establishment she frequents in the original comic book on her 21st birthday! It’s these subtle connections that excite me as a fan and offer a tantalizing glimpse into the world we’ll soon explore.

It’s likely that we’ll soon get a look at Milly Alcock in her Supergirl outfit. Just like her famous cousin Kara Zor-El, she’s had many different costumes throughout the years. It wouldn’t shock us if her costume resembled the design from the “Woman of Tomorrow” comic book. However, they might choose a completely unique design for the live-action version. They could also opt to distinguish it from her Arrowverse CW outfit or Sashe Calle’s costume in “The Flash.” Regardless, after her impressive performance in “House of the Dragon,” we’re confident that Alcock will bring this role to life brilliantly.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow hits theaters on June 26, 2026.
