James Gunn Sets the Record Straight: ‘The Batman Part II’ Is Not Canceled: “I’ve been one of Matt’s biggest cheerleaders for years”

As a seasoned movie enthusiast who has weathered the storm of countless rumors and speculations in the world of cinema, I can confidently say that the cancellation of “The Batman – Part II” is nothing more than an ill-founded rumor. I’ve seen it all before – from the fiery demise of the DCEU to the sudden resurrection of the MCU.

In April 2022, news broke about a follow-up to the movie “The Batman“. Both Robert Pattinson and Matt Reeves are set to reprise their roles in this new installment, which is called “The Batman: Part II“. Alongside them, we can expect to see the return of Zoë Kravitz, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell as well.

The filming of this project will kick off in April 2025 at Warner Bros. Studios in England. Initially planned for a 2025 release, the movie has now been pushed back and is slated to hit theaters on October 2, 2026.

As a passionate gamer, I couldn’t help but notice the sudden delay in the release of the upcoming movie, which set off whispers among us fans that it might have been scrapped altogether. This was particularly intriguing given that James Gunn‘s new project, The Brave and the Bold, is on the horizon, fueling speculation that perhaps Gunn didn’t fancy two Batman movies contending against each other in the cinematic arena.

The rumors connect to a different series of allegations implying that James Gunn was the one who decided to terminate the show Superman & Lois prematurely, after only four seasons, rather than the originally intended seven.

Gunn was recently asked about these cancelation rumors and responded openly to the questions.

In his remarks, Gunn made clear his annoyance towards those who blindly trust unconfirmed gossip circulating on social networks. He stressed that any decision to scrap a project would be formally communicated, eliminating the necessity for speculation or ambiguity.

As a long-time admirer, I wholeheartedly endorse Matt Reeves. Ever since his exceptional work on both the Cloverfield franchise and the Planet of the Apes films, I’ve been captivated. Rest assured, fellow enthusiasts, we are brimming with excitement over the script he’s preparing for our upcoming venture.

There’s no indication yet that the project has been terminated, quite the contrary. The remarkable performance of “The Penguin” seems to imply a bright future for Reeves’ Batman Crime Saga, possibly expanding with additional films and offshoots.
