James Gunn Reveals Why ‘The Batman 2’ Was Delayed

As a seasoned cinephile who has witnessed the ebb and flow of Hollywood’s production schedule, I must say that delays are not uncommon, especially in the grand scheme of things. However, the prolonged wait for ‘The Batman: Part II’ is testing even the most patient of fans.

Originally planned for a release in October 2025, ‘The Batman: Part II’ faced setbacks due to labor disputes within the film industry. Despite announcements about the return of its cast and crew, the movie’s premiere has been postponed to October 2, 2026.

Initially scheduled for release earlier, it’s been pushed back to October 1st, 2027 now. This means fans will endure a wait of approximately five and a half years from the first film to its sequel. The reasons behind this delay are still unknown, but both James Gunn and Matt Reeves have disclosed that the script is yet to be finalized completely.

Gunn addressed the delay on social media, giving fans a little more insight.

It’s worth noting that director Andy Muschietti has disclosed that DCU’s ‘Batman: The Brave and the Bold’ has been slightly postponed. For now, he intends to focus his efforts on a fresh science fiction endeavor.

As a fervent fan, I find myself wondering: Might these delays hint at Gunn and DC Studios pondering over integrating Pattinson’s Batman into the DC Universe? While some enthusiasts eagerly anticipate such a prospect, others remain steadfast in their opposition to the idea.

What’s your take on the delays? Would you want to see Pattinson’s Batman in the DCU?
