James Gunn recently shared on social media about a past event: Jason Momoa contacted him asking to be cast as Lobo. This message, according to the esteemed director, was sent when he was first appointed head of Warner Bros.’ superhero division and DC Studios in the fall of 2022.
In the image posted on X, it appears that Jason Momoa sent a message saying “Freaking Lobo.” To which, Gunn responded, “Man, I’ve been telling you for years that you should play Lobo. Not kidding,” as shown in the screenshot.
Reflecting back on a cherished moment, I find myself reminiscing about the day we took over DC Studios. This memory stirs fresh as the text message I received from Jason Momoa that very morning, a testament to the incredible journey we’ve embarked upon together.
Later, he mentioned that it was during this conversation for the first time that he and the actor from Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom talked about him playing the villainous role of Lobo in the DCU.
In summary, Gunn expressed his eagerness about Jason Momoa portraying Lobo, stating that he can hardly contain his excitement to share this experience with everyone.
