James Gunn Reveals What Jason Momoa Texted Him After Being Cast as Lobo in Supergirl: World of Tomorrow: ‘F-cking…’

James Gunn recently shared on social media about a past event: Jason Momoa contacted him asking to be cast as Lobo. This message, according to the esteemed director, was sent when he was first appointed head of Warner Bros.’ superhero division and DC Studios in the fall of 2022.

In the image posted on X, it appears that Jason Momoa sent a message saying “Freaking Lobo.” To which, Gunn responded, “Man, I’ve been telling you for years that you should play Lobo. Not kidding,” as shown in the screenshot.

Reflecting back on a cherished moment, I find myself reminiscing about the day we took over DC Studios. This memory stirs fresh as the text message I received from Jason Momoa that very morning, a testament to the incredible journey we’ve embarked upon together.

Later, he mentioned that it was during this conversation for the first time that he and the actor from Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom talked about him playing the villainous role of Lobo in the DCU.

In summary, Gunn expressed his eagerness about Jason Momoa portraying Lobo, stating that he can hardly contain his excitement to share this experience with everyone.

For those unaware, Jason Momoa has been cast as the main character in “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow”. Although the film is currently being made, it’s important to note that Momoa will be working alongside Milly Alcock from “House of the Dragon”, who takes on the role of Kara Zor-El, the leading character.

It’s worth noting that Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow marks the second installment in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s revamped DC Universe. Previously, they launched their superhero universe with Superman, featuring David Corenswet portraying the Man of Steel character. In this version, Rachel Brosnahan will play Lois Lane.
