As a gamer with a rich history of immersing myself in the vibrant worlds of DC comics and video games, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia when it comes to the prospect of seeing Dave Bautista as Bane on the silver screen. The thought of him embodying such an iconic villain was nothing short of exhilarating. However, it seems that fate has other plans for this talented actor.
James Gunn is putting in a lot of effort to rebuild the DC Universe (DCU) from its foundations. Today marks the global release of the initial two episodes of Creature Commandos, thereby officially kick-starting the DCU. With this first project wrapped up, there are numerous thrilling upcoming projects in store for fans to eagerly anticipate.
Among the latest projects that have been verified is a film, which will be a live-action portrayal of the notorious characters, Bane and Deathstroke. At this point, specifics about the movie remain limited, yet enthusiasts can’t help but ponder over who might bring these iconic figures to life on screen.
In a recent chat with Josh Horowitz on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, Horowitz enquired if Dave Bautista was being considered for the part of Bane. It’s worth mentioning that Gunn had previously solicited fan suggestions for a role for Bautista in the DC Universe, and a significant number of fans opted for Bane as their preferred choice.
James Gunn, on the other hand, shared some intriguing news. Apparently, the director hinted that Bautista might not be keen on playing the role.
It seems Dave is not keen on being Bane at the moment; instead, he might prefer taking on a different character role.
Additionally, Gunn noted his fondness for Bautista and expressed interest in collaborating with him once more; however, Bane isn’t the fitting character for him. Both Horowitz and Gunn highlighted that Bautista has shed quite a bit of weight lately, which was a worry among fans not long ago.
In the end, Bautista himself said a while ago that he wasn’t interested in the role:
Furthermore, let me express my gratitude for the opportunity, but I’m not sure I can do justice to the character of Bane given my current abilities and career trajectory. To be honest, I’m uncertain about my physical capabilities and long-term planning skills for multiple films. Therefore, I’m unsure if I would be suitable for that role.
