James Gunn Reacts to AI-Created ‘Superman’ Trailer Airing on French News Station

As a lifelong DC fan and a connoisseur of all things Superman, I must say that the recent AI-generated “trailer” for the upcoming film is a disheartening display of what not to do with our beloved Man of Steel. The visuals were lackluster at best, leaving me yearning for the day when we finally get an official teaser that does justice to this iconic character.

DC University’s version of Superman is scheduled to premiere on July 11, 2025. As per James Gunn, this will be the first authentic unveiling of the DC Universe, despite the earlier release of Creature Commandos. Filming was completed several months ago, yet an official trailer or teaser has not been released as of now, with only a few promotional photos and set leaks available.

Nevertheless, this didn’t deter a French news station from crafting an AI-generated version of the Superman trailer on their own.

France’s television network recently broadcasted an AI-created sneak peek for the upcoming Superman film during a cultural feature. This teaser showcased a subpar depiction of David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, with Corenswet donning a poorly designed costume that resembled animation rather than live-action.

In the teaser, certain sequences seemed reminiscent of DCEU’s Superman, causing perplexity. The production quality was below expectations, leading to speculation about how a television network could mistakenly identify this as an authentic trailer. Matters worsened when director James Gunn discovered the phony trailer:

Initially, Gunn reacted with a vomit symbol, and subsequently, he mentioned in his comments that it would have been preferable if he hadn’t come across it at all.

I wish this as well.

The majority of responses to the AI-made trailer have predominantly been unfavorable, and we’re thankful it isn’t an actual launch. During his panel at NYCC, James Gunn addressed the subject of a genuine Superman trailer.

Gunns hinted that we might see the initial trailer at a later time, but not immediately, considering the fact that the movie’s promotional activities are yet to start gaining momentum in the upcoming months.

In the meantime, let’s take a look at some fan reactions to the fake “trailer”:

If my experience with AI-generated art has taught me one thing, it’s that many individuals yearn to be creative but lack the time required to master a skill for artistic expression. If AI could help in reducing our working hours and thus provide more leisure time, I would wholeheartedly support this idea.

Hoping the CGI in the film is a little bit better than that😂

Isn’t this action completely contrary to the image of Superman you had in mind? I was hoping for something that embodies the hope and happiness Superman is known for instead.
