As a gamer with over three decades of comic book-inspired escapades under my belt, the prospect of a DCU reboot has me more intrigued than a Superman vs Batman showdown on the highest rooftop of Metropolis and Gotham City combined. The “World’s Finest” title for a potential Batman/Superman team-up movie has brought back fond memories of flipping through those old comic books, eagerly waiting to see how these two titans would tackle their latest foe together.
Approximately a year ago, James Gunn and Peter Safran revealed the slate of projects planned for their revamped DC Universe (DCU), which supersedes the DCEU. Excitingly, fans can look forward to a variety of upcoming movies, live-action series on TV, and animated productions.
In a formal start, the DC Universe (DCU) commences with the debut of “Creature Commandos.” However, the live-action part of this universe won’t truly begin until next year, focusing on “Superman.” According to Gunn and Safran, this Superman film serves as the foundation for the new cinematic universe.
Almost all roles for Superman and his sidekicks have been filled, yet we’re still on the lookout for who will portray Batman and Wonder Woman. For now, don’t anticipate any joint movies like the Avengers in the short term, but James Gunn has subtly suggested a potential title for a film featuring both Superman and Batman.
On his personal Instagram, Gunn responded to a question from a fan: “Suppose there was a movie featuring only Superman and Batman together, what title would you prefer for it – ‘Superman and Batman’ or ‘Batman and Superman‘? Just curious!🤓🦸♂️”

Gunn answered that it would be called ‘World’s Finest.’
A fan of DC Comics, intrigued by director James Gunn’s reference to “The World’s Finest” title, inquired if it was an official component of the DC Universe. However, Gunn chose not to address this query directly.
Previously, I mentioned that the DC Universe hasn’t revealed their choice for Batman yet, although there are some intriguing candidates being discussed. A joint movie isn’t likely to materialize soon since Gunn may prefer to introduce Batman individually first before pairing him with Superman in a film.
The title “World’s Finest” has been linked to Batman and Superman since their first joint appearance in a DC Comics series back in 1941, initially known as “World’s Best Comics”. This was later changed to “World’s Finest Comics” starting from the second issue. Initially published as a quarterly anthology, it showcased stories about Batman, Superman, Robin, and other DC characters. By the 1950s, it evolved into a regular comic series, centering primarily on Batman and Superman, shaping the format that is familiar to many DC Comics fans today.
