James Gunn Hints at a Newly Greenlit Secret DCU Project

As a die-hard DC fan with decades of comics under my belt, I can’t help but feel an electrifying sense of anticipation as James Gunn unveils his vision for the DCU. The upcoming slate is nothing short of jaw-dropping, from the gritty and gripping “Lanterns” to the long-awaited return of Supergirl in 2026.

James Gunn is currently developing a fresh cinematic world known as the DCU, intended to supersede Zack Snyder’s DCEU that, while boasting several blockbusters, also experienced its fair share of missteps throughout its existence.

Kickoff for the DC Universe (DCU) happened today with the debut of “Creature Commandos,” however, the true commencement is set to be the “Superman” film slated for 2025, as confirmed by Gunn and Peter Safran.

Currently, production for Season 2 of the series “Peacemaker” is underway, while another thrilling project, titled “Lanterns,” is in the works. This upcoming show, reminiscent of “True Detective,” will delve into the lives of three renowned Green Lantern characters: Guy Gardner, John Stewart, and Hal Jordan.

It’s been revealed that the production for “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” is scheduled to begin in January 2025, with an anticipated release in 2026. Yet, James Gunn has emphasized that a project being on the schedule doesn’t automatically mean it will be released as planned.

According to Gunn, it’s essential that a project doesn’t begin without a finalized script, and if the quality of the script doesn’t measure up to his expectations, he will not allow the project to proceed.

Apart from “Supergirl,” fans can anticipate titles such as “Paradise Lost,” “The Authority,” “The Brave and the Bold,” an unnamed Teen Titans project, a joint venture featuring Bane and Deathstroke, “Booster Gold” (a TV series), “Waller,” and a film on “Swamp Thing.

Despite his busy schedule, Gunn disclosed on the “Happy, Sad, Confused” podcast that a fresh DCU venture has been given the go-ahead just last week. Though he withheld specifics, fans are eagerly anticipating what’s in store!

“It happened with another thing that was greenlit last week that I can’t even talk about yet.”

As a fervent admirer, I couldn’t help but join the buzz among us fans, speculating about the secretive venture that James Gunn seemed to be hinting at. Two plausible possibilities on my radar are the long-rumored Clayface movie and the tantalizing Sgt. Rock project.

As for Clayface, it’s rumored that Mike Flanagan will be at the helm, with whispers that his script has been given the green light some time back. On the other hand, the latest news concerning the Sgt. Rock movie is that Daniel Craig is being eyed for the main part.
