James Gunn recently dispelled another speculation about Matt Reeves’ forthcoming “The Batman Part II“, specifically addressing the rumor that it might feature Robin.
Gunn Calls Robin Report “Nonsense”
A user on the social media platform Threads, who’s known for being a fan of DC comics, recently suggested (it appears this speculation may have started with Jeff Sneider):
According to reports, Robin might feature in the upcoming film “The Batman 2”. Just like its predecessor, this sequel is expected to be quite intense. The creators, Matt Reeves and Mattson Tomlin, are planning a bold move with their work on the project.
Gunn was quick to respond:
Friends, let’s refrain from spreading misinformation. As far as I can tell, six of us have gone through the script, and none of us has any insider knowledge regarding The Batman 2.
That aligns with Gunn’s current efforts to debunk misleading info regarding DCU and DC Elseworlds ventures.
What We Do Know About The Batman Part II
According to Gunn, the script remains closely guarded, but Warner Bros. Discovery provided a small update in their latest shareholder correspondence. They affirmed that:
In the upcoming year, production for ‘The Batman II’ (2027) is set to start in the spring. Alongside this project, there are several others currently under development.

In a return to the director’s chair, Matt Reeves once again takes on the mantle, with Robert Pattinson stepping back into his caped crusader role as Batman. Collaboratively, Reeves and Mattson Tomlin have penned the script for this upcoming sequel. Interestingly, this installment is part of DC’s Elseworlds series, distinct from James Gunn’s fresh DC Universe continuity.
Worth a mention is that Gunn’s DCU Batman Brave and the Bold movie is supposed to have a Robin.
The Batman: Part II gets released in theaters on October 1, 2027.
IMDb has once again named Colin Farrell as Oz Cobblepot, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, and Andy Serkis as Alfred in their lineup.
