James Gunn Dashes All Hope of Robert Pattinson As DCU Batman

There’s been a lot of discussion about who will play Batman in the new DC Universe (DCU). While James Gunn, one of the heads of DC, previously indicated the DCU’s Batman would be a new version of the character with a different actor, many fans hoped Robert Pattinson, who played Batman in The Batman, could continue in the role. However, Gunn has now firmly stated that won’t happen. He recently responded to a fan question on Threads, directly saying “No” to the possibility of Pattinson’s Batman joining the DCU.

That’s everything! The Batman we’ll see in the new DC Universe—the one who interacts with Superman and Lex Luthor—won’t be Robert Pattinson. It’ll be a different actor taking on the role. So, please stop asking James Gunn about it online! Pattinson will continue playing Batman in The Batman – Part II, and hopefully Part III as well, if things go well. We’re still very much invested in Matt Reeves’ grounded and realistic version of the Batman story.

We don’t expect to hear who will play Batman in the new DC Universe anytime soon. Production on the Batman: The Brave and the Bold movie is still in the early stages – they just hired a new writer. The only way we might find out sooner is if the new Batman makes a quick appearance in the upcoming Superman movie, Man of Tomorrow. However, James Gunn has suggested that neither Batman nor Wonder Woman will be in that film, so it’s unlikely. Still, it will happen eventually – there’s a well-known actor ready and waiting to take on the role when the time is right.
