James Gunn Clarifies Superman Filming: ‘No Scenes. No Reshoots’

As a die-hard fan of Superman and James Gunn, I can’t help but feel my heart racing with anticipation! The upcoming film promises to be nothing short of extraordinary, with Gunn’s unique storytelling and the stellar cast he has assembled.

James Gunn, the writer and director of the upcoming Superman movie, has spoken out regarding rumors about extra filming for the eagerly awaited project. Contrary to rumors suggesting reshoots, Gunn clarified that the production will consist only of quick pickup shots aimed at improving the film. Gunn has also shared details about Threads, keeping fans up-to-date.

James Gunn made it clear that the additional filming will be limited, not requiring any full scenes or complete reshoots. In essence, they are only planning a day and a half of pickup shots, which aren’t entire scenes but rather individual shots to improve the movie, not redo scenes or sequences as previously speculated.

Filming for Superman wrapped up towards the end of July, and Gunn marked the occasion by sharing a heartfelt message on Instagram. In his post, he praised the team’s dedication, expressing gratitude to the cast and crew whose unwavering commitment, inventiveness, and tireless effort have breathed life into this project.

Gunn pondered over the filmmaking process, emphasizing its central theme of hope and virtue. “My intention was to create a movie about a noble man amidst an imperfect world,” he said. Furthermore, he mentioned that the consistent displays of goodness, compassion, and affection he experienced daily on set had served as a powerful motivator when he felt drained and struggling to continue independently.

As a dedicated follower, I’m excited to share that in July 2025, I’ll be witnessing the new Superman film unfold. In this movie, David Corenswet steps into the iconic role of Superman, while Rachel Brosnahan brings Lois Lane to life on screen. Notably, Nicholas Hoult will portray Lex Luthor. Additionally, María Gabriela de Faría is a part of the talented ensemble as The Engineer.

In addition to key players like Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, Sean Gunn, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Isabel Merced, and Nathan Fillion, this production boasts a multifaceted ensemble that is poised to infuse the DC universe with new vitality.

Gunn’s concept of Superman stems from its fundamental principles. In his Instagram post, he outlined the creative journey, expressing that their collective destination was always Superman, but the path was filled with hard work, laughter, emotions, brainstorming sessions, and enchanting moments they all experienced on set – experiences for which he remains eternally grateful.
