James Gunn Claps Back at Superman Spot Criticism: You Won’t Believe His Response!

The recently aired Superman commercial during the NFL playoffs has sparked some debate, as certain fans are displeased with the scenes showing David Corenswet soaring through the air as the Steel Man.

Initially, I noted that James Gunn had edited out the blood seen in the trailer’s spot, a detail he hasn’t addressed publicly. Meanwhile, Gunn has responded to criticisms directed at Corenswet.

What are the complaints?

A considerable number of viewers have shared their opinions about Corenswet’s appearance in the latest “Icon” promotional clip on social media, pointing out aspects like his facial expressions and blink rate. Some tweets even find his lack of blinking unusual. Personally, I don’t share these concerns, and I believe the spot surpasses the initial trailer in overall effectiveness.

A viewer commented to Gunn about the film Threads, “Wow, it looks cool! The camera angle for Superman flying is excellent, but something about his face seems a bit off. I understand there’s still plenty of time to perfect the CGI.

Gunn countered, stating that no computer-generated imagery was employed for the scene: “There’s not a speck of CG on his face. A wide-angle lens can give faces an entirely distinct look when shot up close. The Svalbard background plate we used is completely authentic, just like David himself.

Most likely, what Gunn doesn’t desire is a debate about the appearance of Superman he’s directing, considering the fiasco when Warner Bros. digitally erased Henry Cavill’s mustache in the cinematic version of Justice League.
