As a dedicated fan with years of comic book history under my belt, I must say that the casting rumors surrounding Booster Gold have been nothing short of rollercoaster-esque. The anticipation has been palpable, and the speculation about who will don the gold suit has kept us all on our toes.
‘Booster Gold’ has been announced as one of the upcoming live-action shows in the DC Universe, under the title ‘Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters’. While specific details about the series are scarce, as of now, it appears that production will not start immediately according to James Gunn.
Typically, fans have shared their opinions about who should play the main role. Initially, Antony Starr and Chris Pratt were seen as likely choices because of their links with Gunn and their likeness to Booster Gold. However, these speculations have recently been debunked.
Lately, it’s been circulating that Kumail Nanjiani may have been selected to play Booster Gold within the DC Universe. Given his extensive acting portfolio, it seems plausible that his humor-rich past could have factored into this potential casting choice.
Nonetheless, the decision to cast Nanjiani as Booster Gold has sparked criticism on social media, mainly due to the fact that he’s Pakistani-American, a characteristic not typically associated with the character in comic book depictions.
Furthermore, some audiences found Nanjiani’s performance as a character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s ‘Eternals’ to be met with varying opinions, often expressing dissatisfaction with his portrayal and acting skills. This general dissatisfaction is largely attributed to the fact that Nanjiani does not physically resemble Booster Gold, the character he was expected to embody.
If you’ve been wishing for a different actor to play Booster Gold, there might be some positive updates coming up. James Gunn seems to have dismissed the speculations, but the validity of his statement could depend on how it’s interpreted.
Lately, Gunn recently posted about his accomplishments since assuming the co-CEO position at DC Studios. He even shared an image showcasing some of the key casting decisions within the DC Universe, such as the speculated role of Nanjiani as Booster Gold.
One fan inquired whether Gunn’s reposting of the photo confirmed that Nanjiani would be playing Booster Gold. Gunn responded with a clear “no.”

Just a heads-up: While Gunn didn’t flat out deny that Nanjiani is Booster Gold in the image he shared, he also didn’t confirm it. Posting the picture doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a confirmation.
It’s quite likely that Nanjiani got chosen for the role, given his frequent appearances on the ‘Superman’ set and his association with the DC Universe team.
Alternatively, his recurring presence on set and Gunn’s reluctance to rule out the idea of Nanjiani as Booster Gold might suggest that he could be considered for another significant role in the film.
