James Gunn has again raised concerns about whether he can effectively manage DC Studios and direct movies at the same time, suggesting it might not be a long-term solution.
In an interview with Variety, James Gunn admitted that balancing his work as a director and running a studio is challenging, leading to questions about how long he’ll be able to continue doing both.
This fits with the recent sale of Warner Bros. Discovery, and reports that James Gunn will no longer be leading DC Studios.

James Gunn Questions Whether the DCU Model Can Last
When questioned about balancing creative work with leadership duties, Gunn admitted the issue remains unresolved.
Gunn expressed concerns about whether the current pace could continue, saying it was demanding and simply didn’t leave enough time in the day to manage everything.
DC fans might be worried to hear James Gunn call DC Studios an “experiment,” suggesting that plans aren’t completely finalized.
He also shared that he first declined the position, explaining he didn’t want to manage things in the same way Kevin Feige does at Marvel.
James Gunn explained that he only considered the job after teaming up with Peter Safran. However, the amount of work is still incredibly demanding, and sources say Gunn will likely use this as the reason for eventually stepping down.

Prestige vs Pop Cinema
Just like sources told me at Comic-Con, James Gunn also said he isn’t prioritizing making films that win awards. He’s more focused on other things.
“I don’t care about prestige,” Gunn said. “I like making pop cinema, for lack of a better term.”
Gunn admitted getting award recognition would be a bonus, but he stressed that creating large-scale, impressive experiences is what truly inspires him.
