James Cameron Blasts Trump’s America as ‘Horrifying’ While Becoming a New Zealand Citizen

Acclaimed filmmaker James Cameron expresses delight in acquiring New Zealand citizenship following Donald Trump’s re-election as the U.S. president. He perceives America under Trump as a departure from all that is honorable and decent.

The renowned director of the films “Titanic” and “Avatar”, who is now 70 years old, expressed his views on the possibility of Trump serving a second term. He stated, “I find it appalling, I find it terrifying… I view it as a step backwards from all that is good. America loses its essence if it doesn’t uphold what it has traditionally represented. It becomes an empty concept, and I believe they are stripping it of its values as quickly as possible for their own gain.

Since 2012, Cameron has run a substantial dairy farm in South Wairarapa. His dream of relocating to New Zealand has been long-standing, particularly since he began collaborating extensively with Weta Digital in Wellington on the Avatar movies.

He acknowledged that U.S. politics continues to impact the world, yet he expresses relief at being in New Zealand. “I’m not sure I feel more secure here, but I definitely don’t have to read about it every day on the front page,” he noted. “It just makes me sick,” he added. “The good thing about New Zealand media is that they’ll put it on page three… I just don’t want to see that man’s image anymore, on the front page of the paper. It’s unavoidable there; it feels like watching a car accident repeatedly.

Cameron expressed that his New Zealand citizenship was imminent and held great significance for him. “It’s something I’ve strived for, something that required sacrifices. If one decides to relocate their family and settle somewhere new, one must invest, become a part of it, earn recognition. I believe you have to prove your worth to belong in a place.

Additionally, he drew parallels between New Zealand and his native land, Canada, remarking, “Growing up in Canada, I notice many shared traits among the locals here. Frankly, I prefer it slightly more here. There’s an underlying respect and a mutual demand for respect that I find appealing. In essence, everyone appears to hold an equal status as individuals, which I admire greatly. It’s this aspect that I wanted my children to encounter.

Now, with his new citizenship, Cameron is ready to fully embrace life in New Zealand.
