Last week, The Hollywood Reporter published a report stating that Amazon Studios had proposed making James Bond a female character and creating spinoffs with diverse representations of characters in a universe similar to Marvel’s. It was previously reported that Barbara Broccoli, the long-time owner, rejected Amazon’s ideas; however, the issue now is that Broccoli has sold all the rights to Amazon, thus losing her creative control over the franchise.
Fans respond
According to THR’s report, there was a collective outburst online among fans. On our Facebook page alone, we have more than 3 million followers who are adamant about not having the original James Bond character replaced with a woke version. Usually, when a character is replaced, it signals an agenda rather than a focus on quality storytelling. The original character and longtime creators often face criticism, along with loyal fans. Fans are concerned that this could happen to the 60-year legacy of James Bond, as it has with Doctor Who.

The positive update is that, according to The Daily Mail’s sources, Amazon may have disclosed the gender of the upcoming 007, alleviating concerns about the James Bond series potentially being influenced by progressive Hollywood.

Jeff Bezos sends out company-wide memo
Previously, it was mentioned that Jeff Bezos, the proprietor of Amazon, responded following derogatory comments about Amazon executives made by Broccoli. As per The Daily Mail, reports suggest that Bezos requested her dismissal, stating, “I don’t mind the expense, make it happen.” Interestingly, according to the same source, Bezos is a fan of James Bond and circulated a company-wide memo expressing his preference for maintaining the character as male and British.
Jeff is quite passionate about James Bond movies, and he’s eager to see what Amazon will do with the series. However, there are some elements that must remain unchanged, which is why a memo was circulated this week to alleviate any concerns.
