James Bond Gets a New Mission: First Gameplay for ‘007: First Light’ Drops

IO Interactive has given us a sneak peek at the gameplay for their upcoming James Bond game, titled 007: First Light. This action-packed adventure will guide players through the beginnings of the world’s most recognized secret agent, revealing an origin story that details how James Bond accomplished the mission that granted him his legendary “00” status.

The game follows a young and somewhat inexperienced 26-year-old Bond, voiced by Patrick Gibson.

In this new rendition, beloved characters such as M, Q, and Miss Moneypenny will undergo fresh interpretations, capturing their significant roles during Bond’s formative years at MI6. The plot is inspired by Ian Fleming’s novels and the extended film series, maintaining a balance between originality and respect for the characters’ origins, thus creating its unique narrative thread.

Initially, let’s explore the gameplay of the upcoming James Bond title, ‘007 – First Light’, slated for launch on March 27, 2026 across platforms such as PlayStation 5, Xbox, personal computers, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Since Activision’s license to develop non-exclusive James Bond games expired after the release of 007 Legends in 2012, the gaming franchise has been missing for quite some time. It wasn’t until November 2020 that IO Interactive officially confirmed they were working on a brand new Bond game.

007: First Light development started in earnest following the completion of Hitman 3 in 2021, with the project being unveiled to the public in June 2025.

The game is slated to be released on March 27, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Windows PC, and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Fans who pre-order can enjoy early content and extra cosmetic elements, while a special edition will offer collectibles and exclusive in-game goodies as well.

Hakan Abrak, IO Interactive’s CEO, shared with IGN that the team views 007: First Light as a possible opening for a trilogy. According to him, the aim was to introduce a younger portrayal of James Bond, enabling players to form a personal connection and watch this character evolve.

Abrak likened their project to the Hitman: Triple-Game Series called World of Assassination, stating that they aim to unfold Bond’s tale across numerous games within an interconnected narrative.

In the initial unveiling, viewers can catch a sneak peek of Bond being quite active, displaying his initial operations, combats, and spy abilities. This showcase demonstrates how IO Interactive has seamlessly integrated stealth, strategy, and action elements to breathe life into this iconic character in a contemporary gaming environment for players to enjoy.

As a dedicated Bond follower and die-hard gamer, I’m pumped about diving back into the thrilling realm of 007 with this latest video game! This upcoming adventure promises to deliver a unique perspective on the spy’s origins while keeping longtime fans hooked with classic series elements.
