IO Interactive has announced that the release of their new game, 007 First Light, will be delayed by two months.
The new James Bond game, which fans have been eagerly awaiting, will now be released on May 27, 2026. This is a change from its previously planned release in March.
Aiming for Higher Quality
IO Interactive and CEO Hakan Abrak announced a delay to ensure players receive the best possible version of their most ambitious game to date.
The game can currently be completed, but the developers are taking more time to improve and refine the experience even further.
Hi everyone,
We’re letting you know that we’re moving the release date of 007 First Light to May 27, 2026. This will give us a bit more time to make the game its absolute best.
007 First Light is our biggest project yet, and we’re dedicated to creating an amazing James Bond experience with thrilling action, exciting locations, and all the classic spy elements you’d expect. As an independent studio, this extra time will help us ensure the game meets our high standards and delivers the quality you deserve from day one.
The game is already fully playable, and these two months will allow us to polish it further and make sure it’s the best it can be at launch. We believe this will set 007 First Light up for long-term success, and we truly appreciate your patience and support. We’ll share more updates in early 2026.
Thank you,
IO Interactive / Hakan Abrak

The delay does not affect platform availability. 007 First Light is still on track to release for:
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X|S
- Nintendo Switch 2
- PC
This game offers a fresh take on James Bond’s beginnings, showing his first experiences as a rookie agent in MI6 and how he evolved into the legendary 007.
More Updates Coming in 2026
IO Interactive plans to share more news early next year, including new details, character introductions, and gameplay footage, as fans eagerly anticipate what’s coming next.
The latest trailers have given us a first look at James Bond, his MI6 advisor Greenway, Dr. Selina Tan (played by Gemma Chan, known for her role in Eternals), and Lenny Kravitz, who will be playing the bad guy.
