Okay, so things are getting messy for Jameela Jamil. She’s having to address some criticism of her feminist views after some old private messages surfaced. This all started because documents from Blake Lively’s lawsuit against Justin Baldoni became public, and those messages were included. It’s definitely putting her on the defensive and forcing her to explain where she stands.
I was going through some old documents and found texts from August 2024 where Jamil really came down hard on Lively. She was messaging a publicist, and honestly, the language was pretty shocking. She compared Lively to a “suicide bomber” and called her actions during a movie press tour a “bizarre villain act.” It all came up when people were already talking about how Lively was behaving during that tour, and it’s pretty wild to see those texts now.
When reports surfaced that some of Jamil’s past texts were damaging to her image as a feminist, she responded with a video on Instagram. She clarified that feminism centers on the belief in equal rights, and doesn’t require personal affection for all women. Jamil explained that disagreeing with or having issues with another woman doesn’t make someone any less of a feminist.
Jamil explained in a video that feminism is about achieving equal rights for women in all areas of life – politically, socially, and economically. She clarified that you don’t have to personally like or be friends with every woman to be a feminist, and that disagreements between women are normal. Ultimately, she said, supporting a woman’s right to the same opportunities as men is what truly matters.
She stressed that the movement is about politics, not just socializing. As she put it, “Feminism is fundamentally a moral and political position, not a casual get-together.” She also pointed out that disagreements are normal and simply a part of life.
Jamil recently appeared in the Netflix film People We Meet on Vacation and is also well-known for her roles in The Good Place and She-Hulk. She lent her voice to the Pixar movie Elio, which received an Oscar nomination for best animated feature on January 22nd. Meanwhile, Blake Lively’s lawsuit against Baldoni, which involves claims of sexual harassment and retaliation, is heading towards a trial set for May 2026.
