Jameela Jamil recently shared that she’s attracted to intelligence, identifying as “sapiosexual.” She explained that she doesn’t experience immediate physical attraction based on appearance alone.
She’s attracted to people based on their minds, funny bones, and who they are as individuals, as she discussed in an interview on Anna Wolfe’s podcast, How to Get Wet When You’re Dry.
Okay, so I’ll admit, I’m really drawn to intelligence. It’s not about looks for me at all – it’s about someone who can make me think and really captivate me with their mind. Seriously, I get a real… reaction, almost like a spark, when I meet someone genuinely witty and compelling. And honestly, I don’t really have a type. It’s not about checking boxes, it’s about that mental connection. I just turned 40, and I’ve realized that’s what truly matters to me.
I’m not really focused on a specific type of person, or even gender. I’m attracted to individuals based on their personality, and physical attraction comes after I get to know them.
Jamil, famous for playing Tahani Al-Jamil on the NBC show The Good Place, shared that she’s never experienced instant physical attraction. She confessed, “I’ve honestly never been immediately struck by someone’s looks – not even once.” She admitted she doesn’t understand the feeling and would be curious to experience it, saying she’d love to feel a strong, instant connection with someone’s appearance.
Jamil isn’t initially drawn to people based on physical appearance. Instead, she feels a connection through shared thoughts and emotions. As she explained, her attraction starts with a mental or intellectual bond, not just what she sees.
Jamil shared her simple preferences when asked about what she finds attractive. She said she likes beards and facial hair, and generally prefers men who look mature, are clean, and smell good.
Jamil has been happily with British musician James Blake since 2015, proving her relationship philosophy works for her.
