It’s not surprising that Superman, a widely beloved fictional character, has been portrayed and voiced by numerous actors. The upcoming live-action portrayal of Clark Kent, played by David Corenswet, is set to premiere on July 11, 2025, marking his takeover of the role from Henry Cavill within the revitalized DC Universe.
David Corenswet’s selection as Superman has sparked debate, primarily among fans who felt that Henry Cavill should continue in the role for this new take on the movie universe. However, behind-the-scenes, there is nothing but admiration for the actor, with many praising him as the ideal Superman according to director Gunn.
Jack Quaid, known for his roles as Hughie Campbell in ‘The Boys’ and the voice of animated Superman in ‘My Adventures with Superman,’ has chosen to participate in the applause.
In a recent conversation, someone asked Quaid if he’d prefer playing Spider-Man or Superman in live-action. Interestingly enough, he’s already portrayed both characters in their animated forms.
Or, more casually:
Someone once asked Quaid which superhero he’d love to play live – Spiderman or Superman. Funny thing, he’s already played both in cartoon form!
Man, I really enjoy voicing Superman, and I’m quite fond of him! Incidentally, I’m pals with David Corenswet, a guy who left such an impression on me when we first met that I thought, “One day, if they ever need another Superman, it should be you!
He’s definitely going to excel in that film, and while I don’t possess the physique of Clark Kent or Superman, I believe I might be a better fit for Spider-Man given our shared geekiness.
This version maintains the original meaning but uses simpler language and a more conversational tone.

It’s intriguing to learn that Quaid had tried out for the role of Superman, yet unfortunately, he didn’t advance beyond the initial rounds during the casting process.
As a film enthusiast, I gave it a shot, indeed. If one fits the part, I believe everyone would jump at the chance. Unfortunately, my submission didn’t make much headway. The audition tape ended up in a drawer and that’s perfectly alright, quite casual, really.
Quaid also cleared up that he is fine with Gunn’s choice of Superman:
I have a personal connection with David Corenswet; we worked together on a project long ago that didn’t take off, but he’s the kind of person who always seems ready to step in when needed. He’s like Superman in that sense. When I received the audition for voicing Superman in an animated series, I thought it was amusing because while I had voiced Superman before, I didn’t feel physically suited for the role, but I was completely okay with that.
