Following the huge success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2023, Mario and Luigi are back for another adventure on the big screen! The Super Mario Galaxy Movie brings back Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, and Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach. A new clip has just been released hinting at the return of a familiar villain – Jack Black is reprising his role as Bowser, though this time he appears much smaller!
Bowser Is “Working Through His Demons“
Bowser, usually Mario’s enormous enemy, appears surprisingly small in the new teaser. This miniature version of the Koopa King, voiced by Jack Black, throws a fit over a painting while looking up at Mario and Luigi. He quickly calms down, though, joking that he’s “still working through his demons.”
You might be wondering why Bowser is so small. It’s because he ate a Mini Mushroom! Fans of the previous movie will recall Mario and Luigi used one to shrink Bowser down to a tiny size, effectively turning him into a miniature version of himself. It’s tough to be a villain when you’re stuck inside a jar! While it seems unlikely he’ll stay that small throughout the new movie, it would definitely be amusing if he did.
The character quickly became a fan favorite after appearing in the first movie. His memorable song – you probably remember it! – still unexpectedly pops into our heads even now. It’s great to see this musical villain back in action.

One of the most anticipated parts of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is the introduction of two new characters: Princess Rosalina, voiced by Brie Larson (known for her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe), and Bowser Jr., played by Benny Safdie. With Bowser’s son now involved, he’s likely to play a key role in helping his father regain his original size. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is scheduled to hit theaters on April 3, 2026.
