As a lifelong anime enthusiast who has weathered countless twists and turns in the world of manga, I must say that the latest development in My Hero Academia has left me utterly elated! After following the heart-wrenching journey of Izuku Midoriya (Deku) and Ochaco Uraraka since their humble beginnings, it is a sheer delight to see these two characters finally cement their relationship.
Following the popularity of the initial “Big Three” anime series, a new trio has held sway in the comic book and animation industry for quite some time; however, although the original manga for all three have come to an end (with two wrapping up fairly recently), the animated adaptations continue, ensuring that fans can look forward to more engaging content ahead.
Among these, My Hero Academia holds a unique position in the hearts of numerous fans, who were disheartened by the conclusion of the story penned by Kohei Hirokoshi; however, the upside is that it was a fitting and well-earned ending that most fans found satisfying, which isn’t typically the case with significant shonen series.
As a devoted fan, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the final season of our beloved anime. But guess what? Just when we thought we couldn’t get any more excited, the manga’s last volume – Volume 42 – has dropped, and it’s jam-packed with fresh content! Even better, Hirokoshi included a hidden epilogue chapter that seals the fate of one significant ship from our series!
In Japan, it’s officially set for release on December 4th (with the English release date yet to be announced), but copies of Volume 42 are already circulating. This means we can confirm that the final installment of one of the world’s most beloved manga series is brimming with fresh content. Alongside extra illustrations and heartwarming moments, Volume 42 includes a brand new epilogue chapter – Chapter 431, titled “More” – which gives us a glimpse into the lives of our favorite story characters after the events unfolded.
This chapter delves into the dynamic between our show’s main characters, namely Izuku Midoriya (Deku) and Ochaco Uraraka. They are the central romantic pair in the series, and while the storyline has suggested a mutual attraction, it has stopped short of explicitly confirming any romantic feelings. Instead, it leaves their relationship hinted at but undefined.
In the concluding part of the serial release, a poignant moment was created for the characters, but instead of confessing their feelings as fans anticipated, no such confession took place. This left numerous readers feeling frustrated and disheartened. However, creator Hirokoshi plans to address this issue in Chapter 431, focusing predominantly on the bond between Deku and Uraraka.
What you should take note of is that the pair have officially become a romantic couple within the storyline, and Hirokoshi has given this relationship significant significance in the series – a move which was anticipated but nonetheless adds depth to the narrative. Fans are pleased because it shows thoughtfulness towards character progression, ensuring their favorite characters evolve as desired.
It’s common knowledge among manga and anime fans that romantic relationships in shonen series often follow an unusual resolution pattern. In fact, most prominent shonen titles suggest a romantic connection between the protagonist and one of the female leads (such as Ichigo and Orihime in Bleach, Naruto and Hinata in Naruto, Tanjiro and Kanao in Demon Slayer, Edward and Winry in Fullmetal Alchemist, etc.). However, the primary storyline usually only hints at this romance; it seldom gets a conclusive resolution within the main narrative.
After the tale has ended and an epilogue emerges, it turns out our suspicions were correct about the existence of the ship. So, in this case, Hirokoshi didn’t do anything extraordinary, but what followed was a grand and emotional finale that we cherished and felt was necessary!
