As a long-time admirer of the enigmatic and multifaceted Nicole Kidman, I’ve always been intrigued by her career choices that span across various genres and mediums. Her recent statements about her involvement in big-budget productions like Batman Forever and Aquaman have only served to deepen my respect for her as an artist.
As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but marvel at the illustrious career of none other than the remarkable Nicole Kidman herself! In her debut role as the damsel in distress within the first Batman film, she captivated audiences everywhere, followed by appearances in some of the most awe-inspiring blockbusters. In an enlightening interview with L’Officiel, the brilliant Ms. Kidman shared that she purposefully steers clear of the grand Hollywood productions for monetary gains alone.
In interviews, Kidman frequently mentions that people ask her why she takes on roles in major movie franchises such as Batman Forever (1995) or the Aquaman series, given her reputation for acting in dramatic and indie films.
The actress explains, “People often ask me, ‘Why are you doing that?’ To which I reply, ‘Because I get to kiss Batman!’ What many don’t realize is that it’s not all about the paycheck. The major movies I work on typically aim to be unique.”
Although boasting a $100 million production budget, the film ultimately grossed an impressive $336 million at the box office, thereby earning the label of success (according to Box Office Mojo). Unfortunately, neither Val Kilmer nor Nicole Kidman chose to reprise their roles for Schumacher’s subsequent Batman production.
When Nicole Kidman accepted the role of Queen Atlanna in the movie Aquaman, the same set of questions were asked as they had been when she was cast for the sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
Actress Kidman admitted that her decision to join Aquaman was primarily due to her admiration for director James Wan and his horror movies. She further disclosed that she was overjoyed when he contacted her about the role, as she had initially believed it would be for a horror project. The actress expressed her long-standing wish to collaborate with him in a classic horror production, stating, “I’ve always wanted to work with him in a horror film.”
As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but marvel at the captivating performances of Nicole Kidman in limited television shows. Just like her movie roles, these TV appearances have been garnering massive acclaim recently. At this very moment, Kidman is juggling not one, not two, but three incredible television series: Special Ops: Lioness on Paramount, Nine Perfect Strangers on Hulu, and the ever-popular Big Little Lies on HBO. And if that’s not enough to quench my thirst for her acting prowess, she’ll soon be gracing our screens in The Perfect Couple, a series scheduled to stream on Netflix from September 5. I simply can’t wait!
