The crowd showed immense excitement upon learning that an American Psycho remake is being planned. Yet, some dedicated fans expressed a desire for the original version to remain unchanged. Addressing these rumors, the author of American Psycho shared his thoughts on the reboot plans.
Bret Easton Ellis, renowned for creating the character Patrick Bateman in his iconic novel, has expressed his opinion that the reboot is merely a false report or hoax.
He suggested on the Bret Easton Ellis Podcast that it might be misinformation, as he’d been told by someone, apparently, that there are no agreements in place.
It was further clarified that neither Austin Butler nor Luca Guadagnino have officially secured their roles or contracts for the upcoming project, as previously suggested.
Easton Ellis also mentioned Scott Burns, rumored to be involved with the project, as someone who’s reportedly working on its screenplay. However, he clarified that Burns doesn’t have a confirmed deal yet, and he found out about it from different reliable sources. He emphasized that the news of his involvement was fabricated to gauge audience reaction.
It’s plausible that his statement is correct, since typically, authors are notified when a book gets adapted, regardless of whether it’s a new adaptation or a revival (like a remake or reboot).
However, in the case of Bret Easton Ellis, he has been informed of no such development.
Later, Ellis shared that he has no creative involvement whatsoever, implying that if the studio decides to proceed with their reboot ideas, he may receive compensation for it.
