The debut trailer for the first Derry series has been revealed on HBO Max. This new series leads up to the 2017 and 2019 movies titled ‘It’ and ‘It Chapter Two’, respectively. The story takes place 27 years prior to the events depicted in these films, following the plot of Stephen King’s 1986 novel ‘It’.
Bill Skarsgard will once again take on the role of Pennywise, a character that preys upon children before going into a 27-year long slumber. The cast for this series also includes Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, and Rudy Mancuso.
The film begins by showing a child wandering along a chilly, gusty street at night. A kindly pair in a vehicle offer him a ride home. When the man queries about the child’s address, he replies, “Anyplace except for Londonderry.” (Note: Derry is the modern name for Londonderry, so I used both to maintain accuracy.)
Afterward, we observe an aerial view of Maine from a drone, dating back to 1962. A family is spotted relocating into their fresh house, accompanied by their child. Following this, we catch a peek at students studying at Derry High School and some children conversing about their absent classmates.
It’s always wise to hold dear those you cherish nearby,” a woman remarks, only for us to witness a child struggling in a lake moments later. As the trailer concludes, Pennywise emerges once more, sending a chill down our spines.

The series known as “It” was created by Andy Muschietti, his sister Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs. These individuals were also part of the It films. In a chat with Entertainment Weekly, Andy and Barbara shared that they are focusing on the tales of the interludes, which are writings by Mike Hanlon based on his investigation. This investigation includes conversations he has with the town’s elderly residents.
In the additional statement, it’s noted that the narrative explores familiar themes from the film, such as friendship, sorrow, and the strength in collective belief. However, what sets this story apart is its exploration of fear as a tool, which is remarkably relatable to our current circumstances.
The series will release this fall on HBO Max.
