Charity Lawson on facing online bullying

Hey there! I’ve got to spill about the latest podcast episode – it was mind-blowing! The 28-year-old star opened up to Cheryl Burke (yeah, that DWTS legend) about her experience on the show. While she admitted it was fantastic, she also revealed a darker side: she went through sheer hell with her mental health. It’s just amazing how these talented folks can handle such highs and lows!

At the performance, Lawson teamed up with Artem Chigvinstev. She revealed that she faced cyberbullying during the entire event. It’s important to mention that Lawson was the main character in “The Bachelorette” as well.

The 28-year-old expressed surprise, stating that she initially believed joining the DWTS community would be an effortless experience. However, it became increasingly challenging for her, even approaching the level of difficulty she had encountered on shows like The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. She also disclosed receiving threatening messages for simply being there.

In response to queries about the reasons behind the threats against her, Lawson disclosed that they were due to her perceived lack of sufficient performance, arrogance, sense of entitlement, and a strong personality that earned her the label as “the biggest diva” among the cast members.

1. The television personality shared that she had never before spoken publicly about the bullying, as she decided to preserve tranquility during the contest.

She shared with her dance partner that she had faced criticism on the program and encountered negative comments on her personal social media channels.

Lawson expressed that the situation was consistently harmful, stating, “I found myself having to tell Artem, ‘Unfortunately, this is what we’re grappling with and the challenges we face.’ In contrast to other contestants this season, they don’t have these negative comments directed at them… I’m merely surviving, and being referred to as a bully.”

28-year-old woman pointed out that she screened and hid remarks on her private profile, yet those comments remained viewable on the official social media platform of the show.

Charity Lawson gets emotional while talking about the backlash

28-year-old Lawson became emotional while discussing the comments she’s received, explaining that as a Black woman on a reality show, she feels unprotected from the same issues she faces in her daily life. She tearfully shared this decision because it’s necessary for her personal journey.

She added that she had to hold it back, and eventually, she was merely struggling to keep going. Lawson revealed that she was doing her best to endure the challenges of the season.

After some weeks, the 28-year-old would return home from rehearsals, longing to forget her dance moves and be eliminated. She described this period as a dark time.

During an interview after finishing fourth on DWTS, Lawson acknowledged that race had been a factor influencing the show’s outcomes.
