As a devoted fan of all things sitcom and comedy, I was utterly captivated by Jesse Tyler Ferguson‘s heartwarming recollection of Matthew Perry on his podcast, Dinner’s On Me. The Modern Family star managed to weave a tapestry of laughter, camaraderie, and wisdom that left me in awe.
In the recent installment of his podcast, Dinner’s On Me, Jesse Tyler Ferguson paid tribute to Matthew Perry. During this episode, the actor from Modern Family welcomed Lisa Kudrow, who is currently promoting her latest venture, titled No Good Deed.
During their chat, Kudrow opened up about her relationships with the Friends cast and fondly recalled the funniest moments she shared with Matthew Perry.
During the heated discussion, Tyler Ferguson remembered a past encounter with the deceased actor. This actor offered guidance on how to effectively deliver jokes so they would be well-received by the audience.
During conversations with Kudrow, it came up that Perry had dropped by Ferguson’s set, an interesting fact since this set was constructed on the very same spot where Friends’ set stood for a decade. While filming episodes for The Class, Ferguson and his fellow actors were pleasantly surprised when the star of 17 Again stopped by to observe filming, as he happened to be dating one of Jesse’s co-stars at that time.
As a connoisseur of all things lifestyle-related, I happened to notice that one evening, the talented Matthew Perry graced us with his presence during one of our filming sessions.
He also mentioned that he was caught in transition between scenes and some scenes weren’t working out as planned. Writers often gather to brainstorm new ways to improve jokes if they fall flat, and they quickly share these revised lines with the actors. If an actor starts to deliver a line incorrectly or with the wrong punchline, director Jimmy Burrows interrupts to prevent any mishaps. This creates a high-pressure environment.
Reflecting on the wisdom shared by the deceased Hollywood figure, the podcaster remembered that Perry had confided in him, expressing his struggle with making a particular joke: “To be honest, it seemed like a jest to me, but I was finding it extremely challenging to get it right.
In the course of our conversation, I recall Ferguson mentioning a shared jest from our time filming “Friends.” He explained that Matthew and I had this running gag: whenever things didn’t go as planned during filming, we would chuckle and remark, “Ah, you can hear the traffic on Barnum.
Immediately responding, Kudrow clarified for the podcast host that it was Barham, the street beyond the studio, who had made the comment.
The performer asserted that Perry assisted him in rebuilding his self-assurance, and he described the period as being particularly unique since it was spent among individuals who were giants to him.
In October 2023, Matthew Perry, who was well-known for his role on “Friends,” sadly passed away. His remains were interred in Los Angeles. Notably, the cast of “Friends” came together to pay their respects at Perry’s funeral.
