As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for talent and a soft spot for inspiring stories, I must say that Selena Gomez continues to impress me not just with her musical prowess but also her acting chops. Her dedication to learning Spanish for her role in Emilia Pérez speaks volumes about her commitment to her craft and respect for the Hispanic community.
Selena Gomez has truly made her father proud, not only through her impressive musical abilities but also by excelling in her acting career. Most recently, she graced the red carpet for the premiere of Emilia Pérez, a new film she stars in, during the 62nd Annual New York Film Festival at Lincoln Center.
At the gathering, Gomez shared with Extra her opinions on the film’s depiction and discussed how her father, Ricardo Joel Gomez, felt about her role as Jessi Del Monte in the comedic Spanish-language musical.
Gomez elaborated on why she believed it was essential for her character to speak Spanish in the show. She shared with the media, “It held significant value for my family, and it meant everything to me that he put his trust in me,” further mentioning that she required assistance to portray her role effectively in the production.
Indeed, I did have coaches who communicated with me in Spanish daily, but it was my father who took the most pride. He affectionately addressed me as “Mija,” and when he noticed I was texting him in Spanish, he said, “You’re texting me, Mija,” to which I responded, “Yes, I am sending you messages in Spanish.
Speaking about the film, Selena expressed her sincere gratitude, stating, “I feel incredibly fortunate to have been a part of this project. I hope it’s the start of something great and that audiences connect with and appreciate the essence it conveys. I am also deeply grateful to director Jacques Audiard for entrusting me with this acting role.
In the upcoming movie titled Emilia Pérez, Karla Sofía Gascón takes on the role of Emilia, under the direction of renowned French filmmaker Jacques Audiard. Notably, Gascón also assumes the character of Manitas Del Monte – a Mexican drug dealer who feigns death to escape his wife (Gomez) and children. This role marks a remarkable transformation for Gascón in the production.
After consulting with actress Zoe Saldaña, who is also an attorney, the individual undergoes gender reassignment surgery and becomes known as Emilia Pérez. However, after several years have passed, Emilia yearns to reunite with her family, but this wish poses a considerable hurdle.
Starting November 1st, Emilia Pérez’s movie will be screened in certain theaters, while from November 13th, it will be streamable on Netflix.
