He shared that Hoover had watched this film and later expressed to him that “she believed I could tell her deeply personal story, based on her parents’ marriage, with justice.” Since “It Ends With Us” was inspired by these events, he felt a significant “responsibility” or “obligation” to direct the adaptation.

Baldoni admitted to promising the book’s author that he would safeguard her work. However, playing the role of Ryle hadn’t crossed his mind until his assistant recommended it.
