As a lifestyle expert with a keen interest in the arts, I find Justin Baldoni’s journey to starring in “It Ends With Us” truly inspiring. Initially hesitant about taking on the role of Ryle Kincaid, Baldoni was convinced by the author herself and his assistant. His life experience as an actor, director, and producer has given him a unique perspective on storytelling and the power it holds to touch people’s lives.
I, Justin Baldoni, shared that at first, I didn’t think about acting in my newest directorial project, “It Ends With Us,” which is based on Colleen Hoover’s 2016 novel. However, I ended up taking on the role of Ryle Kincaid alongside the brilliant Blake Lively, who brings Lily Bloom to life as my love interest on screen.
Based on the text provided, it seems that Baldoni was persuaded by his assistant and author Hoover to take on a role after being recommended for it. From my perspective, it takes a great deal of trust and confidence in one’s abilities to make such a decision. It’s not uncommon for people to hesitate or have reservations about taking on new opportunities, especially when they come from unexpected sources.
Justin Baldoni shares he initially didn’t plan to play Ryle in It Ends With Us
In a recent chat with Entertainment Weekly, Justin Baldoni shared insights from making his upcoming film “It Ends With Us,” which he both directed and acted in. He mentioned that before the novel gained widespread recognition, he had already read Colleen Hoover’s work. They then began exchanging emails, coincidentally around the time when Baldoni’s first movie, “Five Feet Apart,” was set for release.
He shared that Hoover had watched this film and later expressed to him that “she believed I could tell her deeply personal story, based on her parents’ marriage, with justice.” Since “It Ends With Us” was inspired by these events, he felt a significant “responsibility” or “obligation” to direct the adaptation.

Baldoni admitted to promising the book’s author that he would safeguard her work. However, playing the role of Ryle hadn’t crossed his mind until his assistant recommended it. The actor in question, known for his deceitful roles on screen, shared that before signing the contract, Colleen Hoover casually suggested, “Have you pondered acting in this film? Perhaps as Ryle?” Her proposal proved persuasive, leading him to take on this character.
