Is This Overkill? Kathleen Kennedy Unfazed as New Star Wars Trilogy on Controversial Storyline Reportedly Moves Forward

As a lifelong Star Wars enthusiast who’s seen the original trilogy more times than I can count, and who was there when the first lightsaber flickered across the screen in 1977, I must admit that my excitement for this new trilogy is tempered by some reservations.

Yesterday, it was shared that a fresh Star Wars trilogy is under production. According to Deadline, these upcoming films might serve as episodes 10-12 within the Skywalker Saga, which began with George Lucas’s original Star Wars movie from 1977.

The movie in question, much like Steven Spielberg’s Jaws, revolutionized blockbuster cinema for all time. Lucasfilm is collaborating once more with Simon Kinberg, a familiar face who has previously contributed to their projects, such as co-creating the ‘Star Wars Rebels’ television series and assisting with ‘The Force Awakens.’

Apart from his work on ‘X-Men’, he has contributed to other prominent franchises as well. He co-wrote, produced, and ‘Logan’ spinoff with Hugh Jackman, directed by James Mangold, falls under this category. Additionally, he was the producer for the initial two ‘Deadpool’ films, and served as an executive producer for the upcoming film ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’, set to release in 2024.

It appears that the latest developments in Star Wars have some fans feeling uncertain, and once more, Kathleen Kennedy is receiving criticism following her previous statements. Specifically, she stated a few years ago (as reported by The Hollywood Reporter) that adhering to George Lucas’s original narrative would be detrimental.

It was proposed that the franchise ought to transition beyond the Skywalker saga; however, recent developments suggest that there could be Episode 10 and even more installments in the future.

In terms of continuing with George’s narrative, I believe it might not be appropriate to persistently focus on a particular aspect.

Fans’ opinions on the Star Wars sequels featuring Daisy Ridley as Rey were divided. While some appreciated the exciting action and fresh characters, a large number expressed dissatisfaction with the narrative.

Critics of the movie found Rey’s characterization problematic, as they felt she was excessively powerful yet lacked sufficient history and development. Additionally, there was a sense of dissatisfaction among fans regarding the handling of legacy characters such as Luke Skywalker, with some expressing concern that his character was not portrayed well.

It seems that we may be seeing more sequels, yet the response to this announcement has largely been negative.

I’d appreciate your insights regarding the recent announcement of a new Star Wars Trilogy, consisting of episodes “X, XI, and XII,” with Simon Kinberg serving as both writer and producer. As usual, Kathleen Kennedy will oversee the project……

Why do some people advance in Hollywood despite their questionable track records? Is it reasonable to think that Kathleen Kennedy is making poor decisions? The same Simon Kinberg, known for movies like ‘X3-The Last Stand’, ‘X-men-Apocalypse’, ‘Dark Phoenix’, and even ‘Fant4stic’, is now working on a new ‘Star Wars’ trilogy?

This initially seemed quite intriguing, but upon reading the statement, “Kinberg is set to script and produce the trilogy alongside Kathleen Kennedy at Lucasfilm,” I can’t help but feel uneasy… #StarWars

I don’t trust Simon Kinberg at all with Star Wars especially after he messed up The X-Men badly with Dark Phoenix that Deadpool & Wolverine had to fix his mess! Lucasfilm needs to get rid of Kathleen Kennedy as soon as possible!

Disney’s Lucasfilm has utterly ruined Star Wars. Lay it to rest and leave it alone. Fire Kennedy, decanonize the crap fest you’ve already churned out, get George Lucas back. That’s how you fix this.

And HOW does Kinberg keep getting work?!?!

Kinberg, while competent as a director, often finds himself steering projects under the influence of Kennedy’s guidance, which tends to result in work that appears socially aware but lacks depth and can sometimes feel uninspired.
As for Star Wars, it has taken a break from active storytelling, for now.

There seems to be skepticism surrounding Kinberg’s announcement, as people are uncertain due to lack of comprehensive information about the deal. However, it could potentially be an entirely new project that bears no resemblance to the initial trilogy.

Regrettably, Kennedy’s standing has likely ensured that even if the films are well-made, they’ll probably face unfavorable critiques due to his reputation.
