Is The Goonies Sequel Happening? Corey Feldman, Martha Plimpton And Joe Pantoliano Have THIS To Say About Rumors

As a child of the ’80s, I grew up watching The Goonies and it holds a special place in my heart. The film was more than just a movie; it was an adventure that took us on a thrilling journey we could only dream of. The characters were relatable, the storyline captivating, and the humor timeless.

The classic 1985 film “Goonies,” a blend of adventure and comedy directed by Richard Donner and produced by Steven Spielberg, isn’t planning another sequel at this time. Contrary to some rumors, several cast members from “The Goonies” have stated that “Goonies 2” is not in development, despite one actor implying that discussions about the project could be happening behind closed doors.

Following The Sun’s report that Warner Bros. is working on a Goonies sequel, Corey Feldman, who portrayed Clark “Mouth” Devereaux in the original film, expressed his complete lack of knowledge about the project. Feldman also shared an update regarding this matter on his X platform (previously known as Twitter).

Sean Astin, known for his role as Mikey Walsh, playfully posted a mock sequel poster on social platforms, hinting at Steven Spielberg’s potential role in the absence of a real sequel. However, this seems to be just a humorous jest.

Just like Martha Plimpton, who portrayed Stef Steinbrenner in the initial movie, firmly declared that no such thing as a “Goonies 2” script actually exists. She shared this news through her Instagram post.

Joe Pantoliano, who played Francis Fratelli, called the sequel talk a “hoax” and suggested a documentary about the cast instead. Lastly, Ke Huy Quan, who played Data also denied the rumors of having a second installment. He also said that while there were a few scripts that were in talks for the second part, none of them matched the show’s original charm.

In simpler terms, “The Goonies” tells a story of a band of young explorers who stumble upon a mysterious map leading to a buried fortune. Eager to prevent their hometown from being torn down, they embark on an exciting quest to discover the long-lost treasure.

In the realm of pop culture analysis, I’ve always found myself captivated by the timeless impact of certain productions. Take, for instance, a blockbuster film from the ’80s that raked in approximately $63 million at our domestic box office and earned positive acclaim from critics. This cinematic gem has left an indelible mark on modern storytelling, inspiring recent projects such as Stranger Things, Super 8, and the upcoming Star Wars series Skeleton Crew – a fact that Entertainment Weekly has highlighted in their coverage. Quite fascinating, isn’t it, how one movie can continue to resonate decades later?
