As a seasoned movie buff with decades of cinematic experiences under my belt, I must admit that the news about Disney’s live-action remake of Tangled has me quite intrigued! The original animated film was a delightful fairy tale adventure that captured our hearts with its enchanting storyline and memorable characters.
In December, Disney is set to release a live-action prequel of The Lion King movie, hinting that more live-action adaptations are on the horizon. Following Mufasa’s story, Disney may soon introduce an enchanting tale centered around a princess renowned for her lengthy and magical tresses.
According to Deadline, it appears that Michael Gracey may be chosen as the director for the live-action version of Tangled. For those unaware, Gracey has previously worked on other films such as The Greatest Showman.
As of the current updates, there’s no information about the cast being confirmed yet. The reports are silent on whether the original voice actors, such as Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi, will reprise their roles.
According to the report, the upcoming live-action remake will stick to the storyline of the 2010 original version. Notably, a new draft of the script for this project was penned by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who has previously contributed to the Marvel Studios film Thor: Love and Thunder.
It’s worth noting that Kaytin Robinson is not only involved with, but is also currently developing the reboot of “I Know What You Did Last Summer” for Sony Pictures.
Simultaneously, it’s worth noting that the media outlet has also mentioned potential associates for the live-action Tangled production. These include Kristin Burr from Burr! Productions and Lucy Kitada, who are set to produce the project together.
In 2010, the release of the film quickly gained popularity, earning a staggering $200 million domestically and an additional $591 million globally. Despite its blockbuster success, there hasn’t been significant expansion or development within the franchise.
The project obtained both a Tangled Ever After mini-episode and an animated series on Disney Channel, named Rapunzel’s Tangled Journey.
In various Disney productions, including Wreck-It Ralph and more recently, Disney Dreamlight Valley, the character of Rapunzel made an appearance.
A sequel was reportedly rumored, however, nothing has still been done in that direction.
Mufasa: The Lion King will be released on December 20, 2024.
