Rachel Zegler has quashed any speculation about a romantic relationship with her co-star Kit Connor from their work together in the Broadway remake of Romeo and Juliet. To clarify, they portray the lead characters in this production.
In response to the comments on her Instagram post from December 29 (which had photos of the 20-year-old Heartstopper actor and others), the 23-year-old actress spoke up in her defense.
The fan comment stated, “It seems Rachel has a romantic fixation on Kit Connor, rather than just being friends.
Zegler wrote back, “No! Moving on.”
Her reaction earned more than 3,000 ‘likes’ on Instagram from other users, who praised her for clarifying the situation accurately.
One fan expressed their frustration by stating, ‘It’s exhausting hearing people assume you and Kit have romantic feelings. Your relationship is purely platonic and strong friendship.’ Another supporter chimed in, saying, ‘Kit and Rachel are true friends, and they make a fantastic pair.’ A third admirer added, ‘Your assertiveness is what makes you amazing. I can’t get enough of you!’
For the sake of clarity, it’s worth mentioning that Zegler is at present in a relationship with Josh Andres Rivera, her partner on West Side Story. In a move he made last November, Connor openly acknowledged his bisexuality following allegations of queerbaiting due to portraying a bisexual teenager in Netflix’s Heartstopper, which some critics felt was pressuring him to do so.
The first Broadway production by Zegler and Connor, titled “Zegler and Connor’s Debut Show,” made its premiere in October and will continue running through February 2025. This production is expertly guided by director Jack Antonoff.
